“Ella’s Fella” started with one of those unexpected moments when a song idea seems to appear out of nowhere.
I was listening to my local country radio station while scrolling through Facebook when “Choosin’ Texas” came on the radio (a great song, by the way). At almost the exact same time, I happened across a post about Ella Langley and her “Ella’s Fellas” fan club. I laughed at the name and thought to myself, “I’d love to be her fella.”
That one little thought sounded like a country song waiting to happen.
I immediately texted my son and songwriting partner, William A. Guerro Jr., who lives in Texas, and told him the idea. Before long, the two of us were working on what became “Ella’s Fella.”
The song takes that simple phrase and turns it into a playful romantic story. Plenty of cowboys might be willing to line up for Ella’s attention, but the guy telling the story isn’t interested in being just another name in the crowd. He wants something more. He doesn’t want to be one of “Ella’s Fellas” — he wants to be her fella.
That became the heart of the song and the hook we built everything around.
“Ella’s Fella” is an upbeat contemporary country song with a little humor, a little swagger, and a straightforward love story underneath it all. What began as a funny coincidence between a song on the radio and a Facebook post quickly turned into a father-and-son songwriting session — and a title neither of us could get out of our heads.
